Digital Switchover - Exeter

Are you ready for the digital switchover in Exeter?

Are you ready for the digital switchover in Exeter?

The digital switchover happens in May 2009 in the Exeter area. If you have an old-fashioned analogue TV, or you use Freeview, you will need to re-tune your equipment. We have prepared a guide to what you need to do, and when you need to do it.

When do we switch to digital in Exeter?
Exeter residents get their television signal from the Stockland Hill transmitter. The signal from this transmitter switches over in two stages.

On 6 May 2009, BBC Two goes digital and some new digital channels will be available. If you haven’t switched to digital by 6 May 2009, you will lose BBC Two. If you have switched, you will need to re-tune.

On 20 May 2009, all of the other analogue channels - BBC One, ITV1, Channel 4, and Five will be switched off. If you’ve already switched to digital, you need to retune on this date. If you haven’t switched to digital by this date, you will lose your television signal.

This information doesn’t just cover Exeter - it also applies to viewers who get their television signals from relay transmitters at Bampton, Budleigh Salterton, Dawlish, Stokeinteignhead
Beaminster, Charmouth, Dunsford, Tiverton, Beer, Chideock, Weymouth. Bincombe Hill, Honiton, Preston, Branscombe, Crediton, Brushford, Bridport, Culm Valley, Rampisham, and Chagford.

How can I tell if my television needs to be switched to digital?
If you have have cable (Virgin Media) or satellite (Sky) you are NOT affected.

If you do NOT have a satellite television or a Freeview reciever, you will need new equipment in order to keep watching BBC Two after 6 May 2009 and all channels after 20 May 2009.

If you have Freeview you will need to retune your box between those dates.
